The procedures for applying for a work visa are summarized as follows:
- Receive a written invitation to work and employment from a Canadian employer. It is illegal for a Canadian employer to assign an individual of foreign nationality without a valid work permit.
- ESDC receives approval from the Canadian Department of Labor and Social Development (sometimes the type of work or a worker is exempted for ESDC approval)
- Applying for and receiving a visa from the Canadian Immigration Service (Canadian Embassies)
A work visa is a temporary work permit to live in Canada and does not mean a permanent residence in Canada, but you can apply for permanent residence from within Canada
